Specifically there have been several studies about ginger and it’s affects on menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea).
There was a study that pitted ginger against mefenamic acid which is an NSAID. The results basically said that ginger is as effective as the NSAID but doesn’t have the drawbacks thats NSAIDs can have. GO GINGER!!!
So consider taking fresh or powdered ginger at the first twangs of pain. If you add ibuprofen to it, it won’t hurt. It may even help you cut down on the amount of advil/aleve you take!
